Lead - Media & Communications - Mumbai City FC

Position Overview

The Lead - Media & Communication is an integral part of the club and is the bridge between Comms, the Sporting Department, and external media & Stakeholders. The position plays a vital role in developing relationships with the players and coaches – as well as local, national and international media – by promoting the club and creatively telling Mumbai City FC’s sporting story to the public.

The Manager may be asked to travel with the First Team for away games, pre-season and post-season tours, international friendlies, and be a close and trusted position working directly with Mumbai City FC’s Director of Football and CEO.

At home games, the Manager will be responsible for match day media operations including media zone setup and management, pre- and post- game press conferences and broadcast interviews.

On game day, the Manager will manage a team of matchday staff and must demonstrate leadership skills. Other areas of responsibility include: Marathi Media Relations, Academy & Youth Communications, Sponsorships & Partnerships Communications, Community & Grassroots Communications, and eSports Communications. The Manager - Media & Communications will also work closely with CFG’s global Communications team on select projects on a strategic basis around Commercial, Corporate and Marketing Communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and executing effective communication strategies to promote various verticals of the Club, including but not limited to, the First Team, Youth teams, corporate entities, and fan engagement initiatives.
  • Integrating and strategizing communications with all departments of the Club – First Team, Youth & Academy, Sponsorships & Partnerships, Community and Grassroots
  • Handle all incoming and outgoing media requests for the first team, the CEO, and – from time to time – City Football executives and/or initiatives.
  • Writing informative and concise press releases to the media regarding Club events/news.
  • Deploying press releases and Club communication to the media and internally in a timely manner.
  • Managing media relationships both directly and through the conduit of the Club’s PR Agency.
  • Identify, develop and execute intriguing Mumbai City FC Storylines to the media
  • Keeping an eye on language tone, and sentiment on Mumbai City FC’s social channels – X, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram.
  • Ensuring the setup and management of the Media Zone for game days – be available for, and drive all press conferences.
  • Building and maintaining both national and international media outreach.
  • Developing and maintaining a database of all relevant media contacts.
  • ?Managing crisis events in a calm, poised yet determined manner.
  • Working with the Sponsorships & Partnerships team to manage communication of existing partnerships.
  • Engaging all the Clubs stakeholders on a case-to-case basis including, but not limited to, team owners, league and league partners, sponsors, service agencies, among others.
  • Crafting and managing the Club’s Internal communication requirements
  • Planning and budgeting of communications strategies, including the selection of external service providers, i.e. PR & Media Agency.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experienced professional with at least 5 years of experience in Media & Communications.
  • Must posses a Bachelor's degree in Media and/or Journalism program from a reputed Indian or International institute. A Master's degree will be an advantage.
  • Must have the ability to draft high-quality, precise, coherent yet concise communication documents – press releases, in particular.
  • Have theoretical knowledge of existing media intelligence trackers.
  • Having prior experience in Indian sport, particularly, Indian football, is desirable.
  • Must possess strong relationships with journalists, traditional media houses, and new age media platforms.
  • An effective communicator, able to communicate with executives at all levels.
  • The ability to multi-task and handle changes to plans or workload in a positive manner.
  • Have a keen eye for detail with a knowledge and appreciation of the importance of confidentiality.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Self-driven to set and maintain high standards of performance, delivering quality consistently and efficiently at work.
  • Calm under pressure and being comfortable working in a fast-paced, adaptable environment.
  • Flexible, able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • The flexibility to work on weekends when required.

Should be Proficient in:

MS Office – Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Effective communicator, especially in English (native of bilingual level of communication).

Communication in Hindi – written and spoken – is an advantage.

Communication in Marathi – written and spoken – is an advantage.

 

Salary: INR 10 lakhs, depending on the candidate, and her/his experience.
